About me
Dr. Akhnoukh joined ECU in 2017 after serving as Assistant and
Associate Professor of Construction Management and Civil &
Construction Engineering at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He previously
worked as a Senior Design Engineer at Dar Al-Handasah and as an Engineer at
Orascom Construction in Cairo, Egypt.
His primary research focuses on advanced construction materials, with special emphasis
on concrete and asphalt. He has secured over $3 million in research funding as Principal
Investigator or Co-PI from agencies including the Arkansas and North Carolina
Departments of Transportation, National Science Foundation, NASA, and others.
Dr. Akhnoukh has taught more than 14 undergraduate and graduate courses, including
Structural Analysis, Mechanics of Materials, Soil Mechanics and Foundations, Reinforced
and Prestressed Concrete, Pavement Design, Sustainability in Construction, and
Construction Quality Management. He has supervised and graduated over 20 master’s
and doctoral students and authored more than 75 refereed publications in leading
journals and conferences.
A registered Professional Engineer in Arkansas and North Carolina and a certified
Associate Constructor (American Institute of Constructors), Dr. Akhnoukh is an active
member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, and
Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute. He is a Fellow of the International Road
Federation (IRF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
